Hahndorf Hufendorf Walking Tour
The Hufendorf Walking Tour takes you to prominent locations at the northern end of the main street, and onto locations in the back streets not open to the general public! Enjoy an in-depth look at our village.
See the Original Layout of the Village
This tour commences outside the Hahndorf Academy. It’s the two storey sandstone building very close to the pedestrian crossing in the main street. .
Walkers leave from this historic building to go into the Hufendorf (the original layout of the village) and down the back streets to see Germanic cottages, to which HWT has exclusive access. We then head back onto the main street to continue the tour.
We first visit the historic Lutheran church with the longest running congregation in Australia, with its pioneer cemetery.
As you are guided into the backstreet you will be able to view several building which were built in the early establishment of the village.
See examples of fachwerk (Germanic) cottages, and how they were built.
You will hear stories about the early settlers of Hahndorf and their flight from Prussia in 1838.
Stories about the village you certainly won’t hear by just walking the street – we’ll dig deeper.
This tour leaves you wanting more, and that’s ok, we’d love you to book another one of our walking tours.
