On this sweet walking tour a sweet treat and hot beverage is included. This takes place at The Haus Restaurant , 38A Mount Barker Road. You are welcome there at any time on the morning of the experience however you need to be across the road to commence your walking tour at 11.00am where your guide will meet you in front of the old blacksmith shop which is now called Hahndorf Brewery.

After an introduction to the village the tour heads to St Paul’s Lutheran church – an iconic piece of Hahndorf’s history. Listen as the echoes of history come to life. Our suggestion is to go no later than 10.30am. There is a selection of kuchen items from which to choose from eg Scones, Triple layer mousse cake etc. Yes, a gluten free option is included.

The heroic story of the early settlers of Hahndorf will be shared. Their courageous flight from Prussia, a tale of determination and resilience that shaped the very essence of this town. As you explore the church surroundings, you’ll have the opportunity to marvel at the architecture. Your knowledgeable guide will illuminate its construction and later in the tour, the Germanic (fachwerk) techniques, that give Hahndorf buildings their unique character. A visit to the oldest Germanic farmlet is inlcuded in the tour.

But that’s not all!

Of course, no visit to Hahndorf would be complete without exploring the local folklore. Learn the captivating stories behind the ‘ol pear tree and the humble pretzel, two symbols deeply intertwined with the heart and soul of this charming village.
